20世紀20年代，芬蘭著名數學家R．Nevanlinna創立了亞純函數Nevanlinna值分布理論．為Dirichlet級數的研究注入了新的活力。30年代，法國著名數學家S．Mandelbrojt與G．Valiron等人首先對Dirichlet級數所定義的整函數的值分布進行研究，開創了Dirichlet級數研究的新方向。50年代初，余家榮先生留法回國，在國內開創了對Dirichlet級數、隨機Dirichlet級數定義的解析函數的增長性、值分布及邊界性質的研究，引起了國內外數學界的重視。80年代以來，經過以余家榮教授為代表的、以他的眾多學生為主的中國數學工作者的努力，在這方面取得了豐富的成果，使我國在該領域的研究得到國際的重視。
LaDlace—Stieltjes變換是一類在理論和應用上都十分重要的函數，在某種意義上，Dirichlet級數可以看作是它的一種特例。同時Laplace—Stiehjes變換也是Laplace變換的推廣，而后者在通信傳播技術等方面有廣泛的應用，故其研究有助于應用學科的發展。對于這類函數的分析性質的研究，可追溯到20世紀30年代。1963年余家榮教授首先對LaDlace—Stieltjes變換定義的整函數的增長性及值分布方面的研究作了一些奠基性工作。近年來，c．J．K．Batty、高宗升、尚麗娜和作者等人繼續對這類函數作了研究，取得了一些很好的結果。
本書以作者的研究X-作為基礎，前兩章主要介紹關于Laplace二Stieltjes變換增長性的研究工作，中間兩章討論了復函數奇異方向的研究工作，都有很重要的意義。最后一章介紹Dirichlet級數最新的研究成果，有很大的研究價值。本書為有志探討單復變函數值分布理論，尤其是Dirichlet級數的學者提供了一個新的參考和一個新的研究途徑。凡具備“復變函數”和“實變函數”等大學本科知識的讀者，都可以讀懂本書。
