When completed, The Thames Through Time will comprise four volumes. Two have been previously published covering the later prehistoric, Roman, and Anglo-Saxon periods (from c 1500 BC to AD 1000); the fourth volume, in preparation, will cover AD 1000-2000. This third volume incorporates the work of specialists in Quaternary geology and paleontology, as well as Paleolithic archaeology to focus in Part One on the ice ages, and in Part Two on the Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age. This is a detailed, scholarly report of primary interest to archaeologists, yet the engagingly written text and the generous number of photos and illustrations invite students and non-specialist readers into exploration of the subject.
