This volume consists of a collection of the main papers of one of the founders of the burgeoning field of philosophy of chemistry, Eric Scerri, who teaches chemistry at UCLA. It is an in-depth examination of the field through twelve papers on philosophy of chemistry and the question of reduction; the periodic table, electronic configurations and the nature of elements, and realism and anti-realism; and educational issues in the field. Scerri considers the reduction of chemistry to quantum mechanics, explanation of the periodic system through electronic configurations of atoms, the periodic system as a typical scientific model, and constructivism and relativism in chemistry, for instance.
