Mysterious pioneer Egyptologist Emile Prisse d'Avennes (1807-79) produced this collection of photographs and color drawings of ancient Egyptian art, much of it lost in the following years, and published it in Paris over the decade from 1868 to 1878 as Atlas de l'histoire de l'Art Egyptien, d'aprees les monuments, depuis les temps les plus recules jusqu'a la domination romains. It was published with the current title in 1991 by Zeitouna, Cairo, in 1991, and that edition was reproduced by the American University in Cairo Press in 2000, presumably in cloth cover. EMILE PRISSE DAVENNES (180779), a colossal figure in Egyptian studies, is also the author of Islamic Art in Cairo (AUC Press, 1998), the Oriental Album, as well as dozens of articles and reports on a variety of subjects.
