The Investment Climate in Brazil, India, and South Africa: A Comparison of Approaches for Sustaining Economic Growth in Emerging Economies

Produced by the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development/The World Bank for presentation at the "1st Summit Meeting of the India-Brazil-South Africa Dialogue Forum" held in Brasilia, Brazil, in September 2006, this text provides a comparative study of three of the largest emerging economies today. The authors assess and compare the investment climate in each of the three countries, profiling concrete steps that countries can take to improve the business environment. In particular, the report focuses on the commonalities and differences within and among the three countries and highlights examples where policy makers will be able to draw on the lessons from their own reform experiences and those of their counterparts in other core emerging markets.
