Abraham Kuyper's Commentatio 1860 ─ The Young Kuyper About Calvin, a Lasco, and the Church

Vree (theology) and Zwaan (special librarian for classical antiquity, both Vrije U. Amsterdam) present the first complete publication of the 1860 Latin text written by Abraham Kuyper for a student essay competition organized by the theological faculty of Groningen University. It offers an insight into the views he held on Calvin and a Lasco at that time, and how at the very start of his theological studies he was inspired by certain opinions held by the Groningen theologians and particularly by Schleiermachers' ecclesiology. Main research interest: Dutch Church History, in particular of the nineteenth century; focus: the 'Groningen Movement' (Groninger richting) and Abraham Kuyper.Johan Zwaan, Litt.D. (1973) Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, was special librarian for Classical Antiquity at the University Library of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He was the editor of G. Groen van Prinsterer, Bescheiden (2 vols., 1990-91).
