1．The interpretation of J ane Eyre，as a novel，can be focused on ltsautobiographical elements，the Gothic elements，significance of socialcriticism，the form of a Bildungsroman，that is，a novel that tells thestorv of Jane’S growth from childhood to adulthood．
2．One of the attractions of Jane Eyre is its central theme of a plain orphangirl’s struggle for independence and true love．The story is romantic innature with realistic reflections of Victorian values and social problems·In recent years，critics pay more attention to tts central tmages and fairy—tale sub-structures and its reference to the Bible and other literary works．For instance，Jane’s marriage to Rochester，a wealthy man from a higherclass，is suggestive of the fairy tale Cinderella．
3．Feminist critics approve Jane’S self—respect and pursuit of equality andindependence．They further explore，for example，the power strugglebetween men and women shown in the love and marriage of Rochesterand Jane．They see in Jane and Rochester’s match the struggle ofconquering and being conquered，and the mad woman is interpreted bysome as a psychological representation of Jane’s．She reveals thefrustration and persecution every woman experiences in this or that phaseof her life；and her setting fire to the mansion is representative of theDossible inner rage of all women including Jane，and their secret wish togive vent to it． Modern readings，therefore，have greatly enriched ourunderstanding of this novel and enabled US to better appreciate it as anartistic piece．
