This book reviews the dynamics of child soldiering on the Myanmar-China border (especially the Kachin and Shan States of Myanmar) and explains how it differs from that in other countries and areas. Due to the presence of structural factors (e.g., decentralization of security,inadequate manpower resources, insufficient legal enforcement and chronic poverty) that have an impact on child soldiering and other challenges, Myanmar has limited power to reduce child soldiering, and there is no optimal solution for reducing child soldiering on the Myanmar-China border in the foreseeable future. Instead, the book introduces the “transnational public-private partnership” approach as a “second best” solution and proposes suitable countermeasures.
作者簡介
Kai Chen, PhD., is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Center for Non-Traditional Security and Peaceful Development Studies, College of Public Administration, Zhejiang University, China. From November 2013 to May 2014, he has held the position of visiting scholar at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. From 2009 to 2011, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University, China. His research mainly focuses on non-traditional security and geo-strategic relations in East Asia, especially Southeast Asia and China.
