This hypothesis is contrasted with the current literature on Penrosewhich emphasizes the influence of external factors. For example, Lock-ett et al,in their work extending Penrose, maintain that
She explicitly states that her theory assumes that there are no ex-ternal limits to the growth opportunities of firms. The assumptionof unlimited growth opportunities does not hold today given slo-wer economic growth and increased international competition(2007:1).
In this hypothesis I assumeother things equal , i. e. the firm confro-nts a certain level of uncertainty at particular time. Uncertainty affectthe productive services required for the firm to grow; however, whetherit exerts a limitation on the expansion of the firm depends on the qual-ity of the MMS,whieh governs how much uncertainty can be perceivedand to what extent uncertainty can be controlled. The assumptionabout limited uncertainty makes sure that risk and uncertainty do notimpose unnecessary limitations on the firm to grow. This is argued byHarper as bounded uncertainty which is a logical requisite of thegrowth of the firm,as he maintains:
It should be noted that the uncertainty which the entrepreneurfaces must be bounded... Bounded uncertainty is thus a logicalprerequisite to purposeful entrepreneurial action (1996: 101, em-phasis added).
