"This volume addresses the challenges that political communication is facing today from a comparative perspective, using principles and methods of comparison both across space (cross-national) and across time (longitudinal), thereby advancing the understanding of global trends and cultural differences. It covers a wide range of countries and cultures from advanced Western democracies and beyond. The research tools employed include quantitative and qualitative content analyses, comparative case studies, document analysis, opinion surveys, elite interviews and a combination of various methods. Employing different research strategies and theoretical approaches, this book sheds new light on key concepts in the literature on comparative political communication research, such as professionalization, personalization and globalization. It also investigates processes of change and transformation, such as negativization of campaigns, internationalization of campaign coverage, professionalization of government communication, democratization, commercialization of the media and transnationalization of national public spheres. 作者簡介
Maria Jose Canel is Chair in Political Communication at Complutense University, Madrid, Spain. Her research interests focus on government and public sector communication. She has published nationally and internationally in major publishing companies and specialized journals. She has conducted comparative research on media scandals and also on government communication. Her most recent book is a co-edited comparative study of government communication in 15 countries (Government Communication: Cases and Challenges, 2013). She is Chair of the Political Communication division at IAMCR and ECREA, a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Communication and of The International Encyclopedia of Communication.
Katrin Voltmer is Senior Lecturer in Political Communication at the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds, UK. Her research interests focus on the role of the media in emerging democracies in a comparative perspective. She has also widely published on the changing relationship between politics and the media in established western democracies, the interplay between the media and public policymaking and media influences on citizens' political orientations. Her most recent book, The Media in Transitional Democracies, was published in 2013. She is Associate Editor of Communications: The European Journal of Communication Research, a member of the editorial board of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and a member of the ECREA executive board and treasurer.
