Migration and its associated social practices and consequences have been studied within a multitude of academic disciplines and in the context of policies at local, national and regional level. This edited collection provides an introduction and critical review of conceptual developments and policy contexts of migration scholarship within an Australian and global context. Such an investigation includes political economy analyses of migration and labour market participation; sociological analyses of ‘settling in’ processes; Cultural Studies analyses of first and ‘second generation’ youth cultures; media analyses of ‘race’ and racism; socio-legal analyses of labour exploitation and migrant status; Marxist and feminist intersectional analyses of migrants and the social positions and positioning of racialised ‘Others’; the theorising of cosmopolitanism at the local, national and international level; and contributions of gender, queer and sexual theory to conceptualizing identity, belonging and representation. The collection is an essential contribution to the current mapping of migration studies with a focus on Australian scholarship in its international context.

Vince Marotta? is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Deakin University and Coordinator of Publishing and Mentorship at the Alfred Deakin Research Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation.
Martina Boese is a Research Fellow at RMIT University.
