該書在評述前人研究成果的基礎上，提出了一個全新的二語習得模式，這在理論和方法上均是一大突破。立論正確，有不少創新點，對不同的學派持寬容的態度，取蕪存菁，批判地兼收并蓄，資料翔實，敘述層次分明，分析頗具說服力，語言地道，行文流暢。綜上所述，這是一篇具有一定理論深度的優秀作品。并提出了新視角、新方法，理論聯系實踐，對英語教學，特別是二語習得的研究具有一定的指導意義。
本書所依據的理論觀點和原則是正確的，作者掌握了大量最新材料，并運用二語習得文獻、類型學、語言學理論和語言天賦論等理論對語言遷移進行歷時和共時的全面深入的分析，理論分析較嚴謹透徹，論證合理且較充分，在論證過程中作者有一定的發揮和創意。作者提出的第二語習得模式較為可取，對所提出的第二語習得模式的自我評價也比較客觀。此外，該書結構合理清晰，寫作層次清楚，語言表達流暢，比較規範，體現出作者扎實的理論功底、較強的科研能力和綜合創新的意識。

張雪梅，女，博士，上海外國語大學英語學院副教授，碩士生導師。從事英語教學與研究近20年，研究方向主要為二語習得和英語教學法、語料庫語言學。曾參加上海市、教育部和國家社科等多項科研工作。在語言習得語言教學方面發表論文近20篇；譯作3部，編寫教材和教輔、學術論文集若干。
